Life Cover and Critical Illness
The following table sets out the ranges of age and sum assured in which we automatically need certain medical evidence. The key to the requirements is:
Medical evidence previously obtained will normally remain acceptable for a period of one year.
Underwriting requirements are based on the aggregate sum assured i.e. including sums assured under existing policies (but see above re policies taken out in the last year).
For any Critical Illness Cover between £250,000 and £500,000 the following apply:-
For any Critical Illness Cover over £500,000 the following also applies:-
Blood lipids and Electrocardiogram (Resting & Exercise) are always required as well as CXR for smokers over age 40.
For Family Income Benefit, the following table shows the commutation value of £1,000 per annum of Family Income Benefit which should be used in determining the sum assured for underwriting purposes only.
For example, for someone wishing to effect £5,500 per annum of FIB for 20 years, the commutation value for underwriting purposes would be:
5.5 x 12,084 = 66,462

- We may require blood lipids for features such as positive family history, smoking over 20 cigarettes per day, rateable overweight and/or any history of cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure.
- Electrocardiogram (Resting & Exercise) will be required over age 40.
For any Critical Illness Cover over £500,000 the following also applies:-
Blood lipids and Electrocardiogram (Resting & Exercise) are always required as well as CXR for smokers over age 40.
For Family Income Benefit, the following table shows the commutation value of £1,000 per annum of Family Income Benefit which should be used in determining the sum assured for underwriting purposes only.
